Congratulations to the G.O.A.T., Caitlin Clark!

Iowa Hawkeyes basketball star, Caitlin Clark set the NCAA women’s basketball scoring record, with her 3,528th career point last night against rival Michigan.  Fittingly, the shot that cemented her stature came just left of the mid-court logo.

Not only did she get the scoring record, but she also achieved the Iowa-program record of 49 points, with 13 assists – a double-double.

Clark is closing in on Pete Maravich’s men’s Division I record of 3,667 points. At her current pace of 32.7 points per game this season, Clark would need four more games to pass Maravich, potentially putting the record in sight on Iowa’s senior day against Ohio State on March 2 in the regular-season finale.

Now Clark — who could potentially return for a fifth season if she foregoes this year’s WNBA draft — has a chance to become the leading scorer in Division I basketball history, men’s or women’s.

Congrats to Coach VanDerVeer!!!!

Congratulations to the winningest coach in college basketball, Coach Tara VanDerVeer of Stanford.

Today, she and her Cardinals achieved her 1,203th win to top Mike Krzyzewski’s previous record.

In typical Coach VanDerVeer manner, she talked about her athletes

Not dwelling on her feat, VanDerveer shifted the attention to the talents of her players and their competition.

“I just love how our team battled,” she said after the game. “How about Kiki?” she said, calling out Kiki Iriafen, who had just scored 36 points — a career high.

Jupiter over 2 Hours and 30 Minutes
Image Credit & License: Aurélien Genin
Explanation: Jupiter, our Solar System’s ruling gas giant, is also the fastest spinning planet, rotating once in less than 10 hours. The gas giant doesn’t rotate like a solid body though. A day on Jupiter is about 9 hours and 56 minutes long at the poles, decreasing to 9 hours and 50 minutes near the equator. The giant planet’s fast rotation creates strong jet streams, separating its clouds into planet girdling bands of dark belts and bright zones. You can easily follow Jupiter’s rapid rotation in this sharp sequence of images from the night of January 15, all taken with a camera and small telescope outside of Paris, France. Located just south of the equator, the giant planet’s giant storm system, also known as the Great Red Spot, can be seen moving left to right with the planet’s rotation. From lower left to upper right, the sequence spans about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Dad puts on 260 t-shirts after son asks him if he can set a record

The most t-shirts worn at once is 260, and was achieved by Ted Hastings (Canada) in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, on 17 February 2019.

The idea came after Ted was looking through Guinness World Records 2019 with his children, Avery, 14, and William, 11, when his young son asked him whether he could set an official Guinness World Records title.

Seeing this as a great opportunity to teach his children an important lesson about hard work, commitment, and follow through, Ted replied optimistically and set out to transform this idea into a reality.

Ted wore shirts ranging from medium up to 20X to break the Guinness World Records title, and hoped to raise money for a school playground.

Request your own e-store

When I first started in this business and a school wanted spirit tees and hoodies, I would print up hundreds of orders forms.

Each teacher would distribute the forms to their students.  Each student who wanted a tee would return their order form and cash or a check.  Someone in the main office would then have to collect all the forms and payments, make sure the totals were correct, and process the checks and cut a final check for all the tees.

What a pain!

Thanks to ever-developing technology, those days are long gone.

Now, if your school wants spirit tees, it is very easy for me to set up your very own e-store.  I will give you a PDF flyer that can be emailed to parents and staff.  Parents and staff can then shop online from the comfort of their own home.  They can pay with their debit card or credit card safely and securely.

When I deliver the orders, each order will be individually bagged with a receipt so you can see whose order it is and which homeroom or office that they call home.

If you want to run your sale as a fundraiser, let me know!  If you have certain products that are required, I can make that change too.

Here is an example of what it will look like:

CSM School of Nursing Fashionable Fundraiser

The 2020 College of Southern Maryland School of Nursing has begun.  Thank you to all of our future nurses and medical professionals, especially now in the midst of a global pandemic.

A portion of every sale will be donated to the School of Nursing.  Available in short-sleeve tees and crew-neck sweatshirts.

Sizing and product information can be found here.

Steve Jobs Said ONE Thing Separates Successful People From Everyone Else (and Will Make All the Difference In Your Life)

One simple decision — and one simple word — will never let you down.

Inc. | Jeff Haden

Steve Jobs. Photo from Getty Images.

Steve Jobs had extremely high expectations. He challenged himself—and the people around him—to work smarter, work longer, and work harder so he, and they, could accomplish everything they dreamed possible.

Jobs believed in the power of asking. Jobs believed the future was something we can all make our mark upon.

And maybe even more important, Steve Jobs believed in the fundamental power of belief itself—and of using that belief to motivate and inspire.

As Jobs said:

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.

You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

One of the biggest reasons most of us don’t set out to achieve a huge goal is that we think we first need to develop a comprehensively detailed grand plan, one where every step is charted, every milestone identified — where success is preordained.

But because we don’t have that kind of plan — because creating that kind of plan is basically impossible—we hesitate. We need to see an end before we see a beginning.

And so we never start.

Jobs knew that plans are never perfect. Only in hindsight can they appear that way.

Here’s what really happens. People who eventually find success start by trying things. Lots of things. They succeed at some. They fail at others. They learn from those successes and those failures.

And along the way they seize and at times even create their own opportunities to advance themselves.

Want to start a business? Want to improve your health and fitness? Want to change careers? Determine the first steps. Get started. Keep going.

Most important, trust yourself.

Trust that you’ll figure out how to react and how to respond to roadblocks and challenges. Trust that you will become a little wiser for the experience. Trust that you’ll grow more skilled, more experienced, and more connected.

Try enough things, learn from every success and every setback, and in time you’ll have all the skills, knowledge, and experience you need.

You can never guarantee that you will always succeed, but when you never bet on yourself and try something new, you can definitely guarantee that you will never succeed.

Trust that the dots will someday connect. Believe that the dots will someday connect.

In the meantime, your life will be a lot more interesting.

And a lot more fun.

Service Dog Falls in Love with Donald Duck at Disney World

Seen in Yahoo News: “Nala, a 2-year-old service dog, has warmed countless hearts thanks to an adorable viral video of her cuddling with Donald Duck at Disney World.

“The video shows Nala putting her head on Donald Duck’s lap and closing her eyes in happiness while he gently pets her head. In the background of the video a woman’s voice can be heard saying, “She can stay here for the rest of the day.”

Way to go, University of Tennessee!

I love this story…

An elementary school teacher in Florida posted that her school was having a college colors day. One of her students told her he wanted to wear a University of Tennessee tee but didn’t have one. They discussed that he could wear an orange shirt to show his spirit. He told her every day leading up to it that he had an orange shirt that he was going to wear. So when the day finally arrived, he was SO EXCITED to show the teacher his shirt.

He took it to the next level and drew a design and taped it to his tee. He was so proud of his tee but, after lunch, the teacher noticed he was crying. He said some girls at the lunch table next to his made fun of his homemade tee.

The teacher wanted to get the student his own Vols tee and posted her story to see if anyone had connections to the University of Tennessee.

Well…. word got back to UTenn and they went above and beyond! They sent him a whole pack of Vols gear — tees, bracelets, water bottles, foam fingers, and more!

They even converted the student’s design into a tee and are donating a portion of the proceeds to the STOMP Out Bullying campaign.

(The shirt is at www.utvolshop.com — search for SKU #09216 — but the web site is getting a LOT of traffic and might be down or really slow.)

Farrago Friday: Bacon-Fried Oreos — would you??

farrago, [fuh-rah-goh, -rey-] noun.  a confused mixture; hodgepodge; medley

Welcome to Farrago Friday on this Summer Solstice!

What will you do on this longest day of the year?  What will you eat?

How ’bout Bacon-Fried Oreos?  I love bacon and I am fond of Oreos.  I’m not sold on combining them in any way though.  How about you?  Would you make these?  Have you made these?  Have you ever eaten one?  Would you?

My stomach hurts just reading how to make them.

Now you know about Bacon-Fried Oreos.

You’re welcome.

Charles County Fair

I was asked to make the tees for the Charles County Fair Volunteers. This year’s Fair is sponsored by Waldorf Chevy-Cadillac (www.waldorf-chevy.com) and will take place from Thursday, September 13 until Sunday, September 16, 2018.

Safety Green or Neon Yellow? The volunteers will be very visible, as they wanted Safety Green tees. Some people will see these tees as Safety Green while others will see them as Neon Yellow. As a matter of fact, those two colors are actually the same color!

Here are this year’s designs:

Charles County Championship

For the past 34 years, the Charles County swim teams — Bannister, Hawthorne, Indian Head, Smallwood, and Westlake — have a fun and competitive championship.  This year, it was run by the Waves of Westlake and held at Dorchester pool.

To commemorate this occasion, they asked for tees, tanks, and hoodies. The front design features a Maryland flag (easily the coolest flag of all the States), while the back listed the teams.

Signature Designs

The John Hanson Middle School Band played a festival at Hershey Park.  They called it Trills and Thrills.

For this design, I dropped off a special template and a Sharpie.  After all the kids signed the template, I picked it up and turned it into a one-of-a-kind custom tee, complete with all their signatures!

These tees work best for smaller groups (under 100) and I’ve used them for graduating classes, band trips, and sports teams.

Dr. Brown Children’s Theatre Troope

Dr. Brown Elementary (http://www.ccboe.com/schools/brown) asked me to make tees for their Children’s Theatre Troope.  These royal blue tees were printed with 2 colors (white and yellow) and involved a fade in colors.
